Julie Andrews continued her film and stage career until the 1990's when, after having throat surgeries, Andrews lost her beautiful singing voice. Here is some information on it...
"Andrews was forced to quit the show towards the end of the Broadway run in 1997 when she developed vocal problems. She subsequently underwent surgery to remove non-cancerous nodules from her throat and was left unable to sing.[2] In 1999 she filed a malpractice suit against the doctors at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital, including Dr. Scott Kessler and Dr. Jeffrey Libin, who had operated on her throat. Originally, the doctors assured Andrews that she should regain her voice within six weeks, but Andrews' stepdaughter Jennifer Edwards said in 1999 "it's been two years, and it [her singing voice] still hasn't returned."[40] The lawsuit was settled in September 2000."
Isn't that terrible?
The next time Julie Andrews sang publicly was in the movie The Princess Diaries 2, where she played the queen of a fictional country called Ginovia!
Julie, now, is also an author of several childrens books.

Happy (late) Birthday Julie!
ReplyDeleteThat's so terribal about her voice!
I wish I could've seen the "My Fair Lady" play!
Julie is amazing! :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday.
Oh, I simply adore Julie Andrews, so so much. :) Even though I love Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, half of me wishes Julie had been in the movie version, since she actually sang and Audrey didn't. And it's so tragic about her voice. But she's incredible and oh-so-talented.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see another lover of musicals! They are such a great love of my life...I truly don't understand people that don't like them.
