Last Month Brithdays!

Here are three musical stars born in the month of February!

Betty Hutton

Betty Hutton was born on  February 26th in 1921. Her real name was actually Elizabeth June Thornburg. Her first movie was made in 1941 and it was called "The Fleets In." The movie "Annie Get Your Gun" was one of Hutton's most famous movies, however she didn't like her co-star, Howard Keel. She was also asked to play Ado Annie, in the movie Oklahoma, but turned the part down. She said she preffered it when she was able to act more and sing less. Altogether she played in 21  films, although the majority of them were flops. Finally she had to retire from film making since no one liked her any more. By 1970 she ended up working as a cook/housekeeper. She died 5 years ago in 2007. Although she didn't live a very happy life and not to many people remember her now, she was a great star for her time!

Happy Birthday Betty Hutton!

Kathryn Grayson

Kathryn Grayson was born on February 9th 1922. Her real name is Zelma Kathryn Elisabeth Hedrick. Her first movie was made in 1941 and it was called Andy Hardy's Private Secretary with Mickey Rooney.  Two of her most well-known films were called, Anchors Aweigh and Show Boat. Un-like Betty Hutton, Kathryn Grayson was great friends with her Show Boat co-star Howard Keel. They even performed together in night clubs when their ovie careers were over. She was actually hired by the studio to rival Universal's popular operatic singing star, Deanna Durbin. She never actually intended or wanted to be in films, but directors talked her out of pursuing her dreams of being an opera star. At her time she was very popular and she had a wonderful voice. She died two years ago in 2010.

Happy birthday Kathryn Grayson!

Vera-Ellen

Vera-Ellen was born on February 26th, 1921. Her real name is Vera Ellen Westmeier Rohe. Her first movie was made in 1945 and it was called Wonder Man; however she only played a dancer in one scene. She was very well-known for playing in On The Town and Three Little Words, but her very most famous was called White Christmas where she played opposite Dannny Kaye, Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. She started dancing at the age of 10, dancing helped her with her many health difficulties. Since she was very sad through some years of her life she hardly ate and because of this she was said to have the tiniest waist in Hollywood in the 1950's. She only played in one non-musical film and it was called Big Leauger. After making White Christmas Vera-Elln fell out of popularity and retired from film- making. She died in 1981.
                                       Happy Birthday Vera-Ellen!

  1. Oh I feel so sad for Betty Hutton she was so funny and talented!
And I love watching that clip "I Can't Stop Talking About Him" she's so fast!
This is so weird but me and Susannah were watching the Kathryn Grayson clip on differn't computers at the same time and at the same time we both relized that the yellow dress she is wearing is from an episode of "F Troop"!
And we didn't even know we were both watching the same clip!
That song she sings is really pretty, do you know what it is from?
I've always liked Vera Ellen she is such a good dancer!
That explaines why her waist was "too" small in White Christmas!
I wonder what she did after her film career.

    Who wears it?
The movie is called "So This is Love."
I read that after her career she just kind of dissapeared and no one head from her until she died....
